COVID-19 Network Investigations Alliance

Covid-19 Network Investigations Alliance (CONI) has been running COVID-19 genomic surveillance since March 2020. The network is institutionally based at Mahidol University with contributing members from many institutes such as Mahidol University, Oxford University and Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS). We work closely with local and regional health and scientific agencies to control COVID-19, but we are operationally independent to maintain transparency and academic freedom in reporting genomic surveillance data in public database. We also maintain local Nextstrain builds for Thailand and Southeast Asia for SARS-CoV-2 in general and for key variants.

We perform genomic sequencing for our partners for free and do not have any condition except for allowing us to submit the genomic data into GISAID with relevant unidentifiable epidemiological data.

Starting in 2022, CONI will play a more supportive role in order to assist genomic surveillance teams with limited resources in Southeast Asia. We aim to provide training and to support high-performance computing platforms via ThaiSC to local sequencing teams in the region.
